Kitchen remodeling built around how you cook
The kitchen is where most families spend their time, and it is the room where a remodel shows the most. Some clients want a fresh look in the same footprint; others want to open the kitchen to the living area, add an island or make room for a second cook. Mejia Construction remodels kitchens in Cathedral City and across the Coachella Valley, and we start every project the same way: by looking at how you use the room today.
What’s included in a kitchen remodel
- Demolition of cabinets, counters, flooring and backsplash, with debris hauled away.
- Layout changes, including islands, peninsulas and opening walls after an engineering review when a wall is load-bearing.
- Cabinet installation, level and square, with fillers, panels and hardware.
- Countertops measured and installed after the cabinets are set.
- Backsplash tile and tile flooring that ties into the rest of the house.
- Drywall and painting to finish walls and ceilings.
- Plumbing and electrical for sinks, dishwashers, ranges and lighting, handled by trade partners.
Our kitchen remodel, step by step
- Free on-site estimate. We measure, look at the plumbing and electrical, and talk about layout, budget and finishes.
- Written proposal. Scope, materials, schedule and payment schedule in writing, so nothing is assumed.
- Ordering. Cabinets and counters get ordered early because they set the timeline.
- Demo and rough-in. Old kitchen out, then any plumbing, electrical and wall changes.
- Drywall, paint and floors. Walls closed up and finished before cabinets go in.
- Cabinets, counters and backsplash. The kitchen takes shape.
- Fixtures and walkthrough. Sink, faucet and appliances connected, punch list completed and the space cleaned.
Signs it’s time to remodel your kitchen
- Cabinet doors sag, drawers stick or the finish is peeling.
- Counter space runs out every time you cook.
- The layout forces everyone into the same narrow path.
- Lighting is dim or comes from a single ceiling fixture.
- Grout is stained, tiles are cracked or the floor no longer matches the rest of the house.
Kitchens for desert living
In the Coachella Valley, the kitchen often opens to a patio or pool, so many clients want better flow to the backyard and a view out instead of a wall. Strong sun through large windows can fade some finishes, which is worth considering when you pick counters and cabinet colors. Because so many homes here sit on concrete slabs, moving a sink or adding an island sink means cutting the slab. It can be done, and we price it honestly so you can decide whether the new layout is worth it.
Planning a bathroom next? Many clients pair a kitchen with a bathroom remodel or a larger home remodel so the house feels finished all at once.
