Interior & Exterior Painting in Cathedral City, CA

Desert sun is hard on paint. We prep surfaces properly, repair stucco cracks, choose coatings that stand up to UV and heat, and schedule exterior work for the cooler hours so the finish cures the way it should.

Painting that stands up to desert sun

Paint does two jobs: it makes the house look right, and it protects the surfaces underneath. In the Coachella Valley, sun and heat test that second job every day. Mejia Construction paints interiors and exteriors across Cathedral City and the valley with the prep, repairs and coatings that give the finish a real chance to last.

Painting services

  • Interior painting for walls, ceilings, doors and trim.
  • Exterior stucco painting, including crack repair and primer where needed.
  • Fascia, eaves, garage doors and entry doors.
  • Cabinet painting for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Drywall repair before interior paint, so patches disappear.
  • Color samples on the wall, so you see the color in your own light.

Our painting process

  1. Walkthrough and colors. We look at the surfaces, talk about sheen and colors and note repairs.
  2. Protect. Cover floors, furniture, landscaping and fixtures; mask windows and hardware.
  3. Prepare. Wash exterior surfaces, scrape loose paint, fill cracks and patch drywall or stucco.
  4. Prime. Spot-prime repairs and bare surfaces so the topcoat looks even.
  5. Paint. Apply the coats the product calls for, following the shade on exterior jobs.
  6. Walk and touch up. Review every room or wall with you and handle touch-ups before cleanup.

Signs it’s time to repaint

  • Exterior color looks faded or chalky, especially on south and west walls.
  • Paint is peeling around windows, doors or fascia.
  • Hairline cracks are spreading across the stucco.
  • Interior walls show scuffs, patches and old nail holes.
  • You are getting ready to sell or just moved in and want your own colors.

Painting in the Coachella Valley

Summer highs here regularly pass 100 degrees, and strong UV breaks down pigment and binder over time. That is why prep and product choice matter more here than in milder climates. Exterior work is scheduled for the cooler part of the day, and we avoid painting surfaces that are hot to the touch. Stucco moves with temperature, so we repair cracks before paint instead of painting over them. Many communities have HOA color rules, so plan the approval into your timeline. Painting is also the finishing step in most of our home remodels and home additions.

Painting FAQ

Painting questions from Coachella Valley homeowners

How often should I repaint stucco in the desert?

Intense sun and heat break down paint faster in the desert than in milder climates. South and west walls usually fade first. When the color looks chalky, faded or the stucco shows hairline cracks, it is time for a repaint.

What is the best time of year to paint a house exterior here?

Fall, winter and spring are the most comfortable seasons in the Coachella Valley. Summer painting is possible if the work starts early and follows the shade around the house, since paint applied to a sun-baked wall can dry too fast.

What is elastomeric paint and do I need it?

Elastomeric coating is a thick, flexible paint that stretches over hairline stucco cracks and sheds water. It works well on stucco with fine cracking. It is not right for every wall, so we look at your surface before recommending it.

Does my HOA need to approve exterior colors?

In many Coachella Valley communities, yes. HOAs often publish an approved color palette or require a submission before you repaint. Getting approval before we start avoids repainting later.

Is it worth painting kitchen cabinets instead of replacing them?

If the cabinet boxes are solid and the layout works, painting can give the kitchen a new look for much less than replacement. Good results depend on cleaning, sanding, priming and a durable cabinet finish. If the layout is the problem, look at a kitchen remodel.

How should I prepare for interior painting?

Clear small items off walls and shelves and give us room to move furniture to the center. We cover floors and furniture, repair nail holes and cracks, and protect fixtures before any paint is opened.
